She woke up every morning and after a tough day at work and managing all day to day to day chores she went back to bed tired. “Is this my life”? she asked. She had read in a book by her favourite author that routine was lethal and she had spent most of her life trying to be careful about the fact that she does not want to get into a routine in life. She would do little things to make her feel that she is not in a routine. She would be a bit late to go to work on a Friday. “Its Friday” she would say. Every morning when she woke up and looked into the mirror while brushing her teeth, she would feel annoyed that she has to do the same things every morning – just made her feel mundane, so on a Saturday she would spend her time doing new things like sketching, writing, learning, reading and playing tennis so she would feel different. Her fear of routine was growing on her. There were only two things that she constantly tried to do – stay away from mundane things and routine and constantly try to be different.
One morning as she was getting ready she asked herself – “do I really understand the meaning of routine? Don’t we all have routines in something or the other? does the universe not follow a routine? what would happen if the sun chose to not rise one day because it did not want to follow the same old mundane routine…
“What is routine? and why am I so scared of it? What am I really scared about?” She asked herself. She did not know and could not figure out why she has this constant urge to avoid doing the chores and tasks that were important. She was falling behind in organising her life…
That night, when she was praying to the universe, her heart spoke to her. It was disappointed. “What do you mean?” she asked. “Well, you don’t listen to me do you”? her heart asked.
“I am sorry, I do not get what you are saying”? I understand you have a task to be complicated, but can you explain to me in simple terms?. She was getting annoyed.
“You are missing out on the fun of every moment and it saddens me to see that.” You are so worried about not doing the same things the same way, that you have forgotten to notice when you do them differently. You have forgotten to realise that even though you do the same things, you do them differently each day”. Her heart said.
“I am listening”. She was interested now.
“Every day is different” if you try to enjoy the moments and try to find out the little things that you did differently or that made you feel different or that you learnt or the progress that you made in anything that day”. Her heart said.
Only the other day, when her partner came to visit her, and they were having a great time, she found herself worrying about the time when he would leave and she would be alone again. She was scared of the routine of his visits. She was focused on the fact that the routine of his leaving her alone is killing her and the desire to not let him go is hurting her. That thought consumed her so much that she did not see the little things that they did together that were different each day. The different ways their bodies naturally connected to each other, the different conversations they had each day and the little things that they said to each other every single day that sounded different than the previous day. “I have been getting this wrong all throughout”? – She was determined to fix this.
“Each day is a blessing. Each day we are learning, the universe is manifesting itself to take you close to your purpose in life. Listen to it, feel it and live it. Don’t just breathe, live… You are different, unique and made for the purpose that God wants you to fulfil, you do not have to try to be different because if you try, it is for people not for you or for god… He already knows… he created you…” He heart said.
“I will” – she said as she woke up from the meditation and got ready to sleep. She knew tomorrow morning would be different. A new day!
